Date: May 2008
WetlandCare Australia has recently completed their ‘Wetland Rehabilitation Guidelines for Great Barrier Reef Catchments’. This product was developed with funding through the Queensland Wetlands Programme, a joint initiative of the Australian and Queensland Governments.
The Guideline is an 80+ page document containing a wealth of information about how to manage and rehabilitate wetlands in coastal Queensland. To accompany the Guidelines a series of Case Studies and Fact Sheets have also been produced.
The Wetland Rehabilitation Guidelines products, along with a range of other wetland related products from the Queensland Wetlands Programme are due to be showcased in the coming months.
The Queensland Wetlands Programme is running a series of free workshops around the state to provide government and council representatives, natural resource management agencies, conservation and industry groups and other wetland managers with an opportunity to view the latest information and tools for managing wetlands.
The one-day workshops offer opportunities to share local case studies, to network with wetland managers and a chance to provide feedback on current wetland management resources.
Workshop dates:
- Brisbane on the 2nd June
- Cairns on the 5th June
- Rockhampton on the 10th June
- Mackay on the 18th June and;
- Townsville on the 4th July.
Refer to the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency’s WetlandInfo website at www.epa.qld.gov.au for further details.
The Rehabilitation Guidelines project team would like to thank all of those people involved in the project, particularly Conservation Volunteers Australia, Econcern, the participants of the Steering Committee and the Technical Focus Groups.
