The Australian Government has produced a guide for landholders which provides information of a range of topics related to responsible wetland ownership.
The information kit provides useful information for landholders considering options related to wetland management and ownership. Articles are presented in an easy to read format, incorporating the use of case studies. Links are provided to a range of government agencies and non government organizations.
Topics covered include:
- What a wetland is in terms of geography and on farm uses,
- A decision making tree to help in consideration of incentive options,
- Where to go for specific policy and technical advice,
- Information about relief from local taxes and charges for wetlands managed for conservation and Federal Government tax concessions
- Availability of grants
- Issues to consider in relation to listing a site as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention.
- Considerations when donating a wetland into the management of a conservation agency or organization
- Option for sale of a wetland for full or partial market value for conservation purposes.
