Hunter-Central Rivers CMA is offering grants of up to $10,000 to rural landholders in the Gosford, Wyong and Lake Macquarie areas to implement on-ground works promoting sustainable agriculture.

Activities that are eligible for grant funding under the program include:

  • Reducing soil disturbance with reduced tillage or ‘no-till’ methods of cultivation;
  • Experimenting with new crop types, alternative rotations, and new harvesting techniques;
  • Using water efficiently, storing and recycling water and improving water quality;
  • Minimising the impact of chemicals on the environment, managing effluent and nutrients to reduce pollution;
  • Planting wind breaks, shelterbelts and shade lots with native local provenance species;
  • Revegetation and rehabilitation of riparian areas and remnant bushland areas;
  • Increasing vegetation cover and biodiversity through creation of wildlife corridors;
  • Restoring and maintaining vegetation cover along drainage lines;
  • Controlling invasive weeds (where it is not subsidising commercial activities);
  • Taking a quality-control approach to agriculture through accredited environmental management systems and marketing programs.
